Progress on the Magic Sock!

Image
I haven't posted on the Magic Sock yet, shame shame shame on me! It just has been extremely hectic, but now that I've handed in my latest translation project (and the invoice, gnagnagna...), I've given myself a WHOLE DAY OFF! Needed it too, feel sh***, very tired, bit of a headache, sore back, all added to my monthlies... Ach well, who said georgeous girls never have an off day ;-) Anyways, time to put some piccies up of the magic sock ball swap! Hooray! The package arrived last week and as soon as we (me and wee H) unpacked it, the yarn was confiscated by her and she decided she wanted kneehighs! "Net als 'Pipi Langkous', mama!" It all came in a beautiful self-made bag (which I'm now using to store the project in, super handy!), and there was a bag of 'salmiak drop' (O, my, you English/American knitters, I wish we had smelly/tasty computers... yumyumyum!!!). Besides the colourful sock yarn, I also received two little mini balls of yarn, which

And of course, just when you've typed a four page blog entry, pffffff.... Just got back from the dental hygienist. 5 minutes into the appointment, I suddenly remembered why I hate dental hygienists... After prodding and poking me with sharp implements, spraying my face and sucking my cheeks dry, lots of tutting and shaking her head, she AGAIN explained to me how to clean my teeth, how to use picks, and how to not stop as soon as it starts bleeding and hurting. I know. I know. I know. Still don't like her. Doesn't help she has the same name as my accountant, either... On a happier note, big S came back from a long weekend in London and brought me this: after ripping open the package (book!) and seeing the magic word oller and an elbow clad in a blue cardigan, I started screaming: THANKYOU!!! Cool to finally have some of the techniques down on paper... Why do some sound like nasty S&M techniques? Like the two fisted fair-isle or three-needle bind off . hihi... I've

How being fickle can make you happy!

I looked at my Traveler's stocking last night and couldn't do it. I couldn't frog it... So, I knitted on and finished it! And... I'm really happy with it! Strange how a (bad) night's sleep and another fresh look at it can change your mind... I have a finished sock to show the SnB group tonight (yeah!!!) and, as I promised myself, I did start a new sock, I'm going to try the Wolhalla pattern with small heel this time. In a nice pastelly colour combo from ONline. What I did like about the TS was the different toe. Not sure if I'm going to use it often, but it saves me Kitchener stitching it all together. Not that I mind, but the less grafting, the better! All my yarn and WIPs have been stuffed in my new knitting bag *proud*, so I'm ready to go... Cafe Wolters, here I come!!!

Soaker, soaking, soaked!

Very satisfying, knitting soakers! Easy, quick and cute... I've finished the first one for baby S, will lanolize and photograph it asap! Problem was that I just about did NOT have enough wool to make one from one skein (I used a double thread...). Shame... It has some stripes now, which do give it a bit of extra oompfh ;-) I used the Curly Purly pattern, no problems there. I may redo the leg openings, cause I think a few more stitches would give the wee man a bit more comfort there... Now, it's just a bit tight... I also put a new lace cap on the needles and will tonight say goodbye to my Traveler's stockings. Frog and turn them into a plain Wolhalla sock, I think...

Are you frogging mad?

Oh my, the inspiration has totally left me... I was nearly finished with the first Traveler's stocking, but it is too long for my liking (because of the long cuff), and I think the colour suits a plain short stockinette sock a lot better... AND I've frogged the soaker I'd started... It was too thin, so I'm now knitting it with a double thread. Much better... I also bought new circular needles, cause I DO PASSIONATELY hate knitting with 4 or 5 needles. I know I can, but I just don't like it. Too messy, too much chance of losing a needle whenever you put it down quickly to do something. Too many sharp points, auch... BUT, on the other hand!!! I've joined a magic sock ball exchange , yippeee... I've planned an outing to Sneek, because, be honest, Leeuwarden does lack a good, well-stocked LYS... I do love the people at Pietronella, but it is a bit depressing walking in there. And why so much acrylic yarn and so little wool? And the only wool they have is grey or
