Knits on stage

While some of my SnB friends went to see Julie & Julia and were all heading back to their kitchens to cook , I went to see Tante Patent with Hannah and got loads of ideas for cool knits. There were knit monster (with knit-on you-know-what), knit cat, cockrel and dolls (lifesize and small), knit vegetables, knit horns and knit head and body wear. Together with a cloth house and cardboard beds, houses, cars and airplanes, this made a 'kids' play into a totally mommy-proof evening of entertainment! Wanna see more? Here: youtube1 and youtube2 .

10 years / 10 jaar

Ten years ago, we were busy doing this... Tien jaar geleden hadden we het hier erg druk mee... Older, wiser, and a bit heavier, we are looking back on 10 great years, and are wishing for many more!

Another knitter! / Weer een breister erbij!

Yes, she finally caught on! We went to SnB together tonight, and unlike last time, this time she got it straight away. Of course, the knitting isn't perfect, but after some years of practice... ;)

Krabben

An untranslateable title today... Do the British scratch? Well, we do! We scratch a lot. Especially car windows... And the 'scratch season' started today. It was cold. It was bitter cold. That's what you get when you've been spoilt with Indian summers for several weeks: a few degrees below zero and we get cold. The heating is on, and I've printed out patterns for plain mittens for the kids. Sams baby mittens from last year are definitely too small now and Hannah... well... she's a girl, and she keeps losing hers... So two pairs of plain mittens it is... and for special... Hannah gets a pair of snowman mittens . Because she still has her snowman hat from last year... And dad gets these: in black, red and grey Een onvertaalbare titel vandaag. Want krabben de Britten wel? Nou, wij wel! We krabben wat af. Vooral autoruiten... En het krabseizoen is weer begonnen. Het was koud. Bitter koud vanochtend!

Proud auntie / Trotse tante

A proud auntie loves cuddling her new niece! And present the proud new parents with a box full of presents. Some pictures of the home-made items in that box! These fingerless mittens (Merletto Mitts) were knit from my homespun merino/silk. They are lovely and warm and were welcomed with enthusiasm! Great for walks with little Famke in the pram. The little 2 summer dress. Het kleine 2-zomerjurkje. The strawberry hat my sister liked - and got, very unexpectedly! And a colourful Celestine, made out of Drops Muskat.

Famke

Yesterday we not only celebrated Sam's birthday, but also the birthday of Famke! After suffering from high blood pressure for a few days, my sister got admitted to hospital on Wednesday night and started labouring Thursday morning. And in the afternoon their little girl was born. Mom and daughter are tired, but very, very happy! I'm trying my hardest to finish off all the pressies I was working on, so we can take them on Sunday, when they'll hopefully be home. I cast off the Merletto Mitts yesterday, and all I need to do is sew a little dress together and then wrap up the last few gifts. Hopefully I will be able to add a picture soon of the latest addition to the family! We're sooooo excited!!!!
