Foppe

Sometimes when you make something, you can't wait to give it. This was one of those situations. A while ago , I won some yarn spun by Annita, with a pattern for her Suusje mouse. I had knit this pattern before, so my hands were just itching to get started! The cuddly toy was knit up quickly and last week I gave it some eyes and put in the stuffing, to bring it to life. Suus, or Foppe, was then wrapped in Sinterklaas paper.... And put into the bag with presents... Big Sister Famke got to unwrap it. See it on the floor next to Batman? It's the yellow oblong one... Now we all just have to wait (a looooong time) before her wee brother decides to make his entrance into the world... And guess who we ran into yesterday? We actually got to say thankyou for delivering our presents in person!

The gift of giving / Geven is net zo leuk als krijgen

Yes, my present was for Mijke ! Jaaaa, mijn cadeautje was voor Mijke ! She loves cooking, and is actually quite good at it too! So, I gave her a nice brownie recipe with ingredients, and made a kitchen apron out of a green kitchen towel and loads of sparklies. I hope she likes it! And what I got? En wat ik heb gekregen? Met dank aan mijn Sinterklaas.... (????)

Wie zoet is krijgt lekkers (updated/bijgewerkt)

No English title this time, as it is hard to translate :) When I was in the shops today with wee H, she was a bit sad when I told here she was not going to get a Sinterklaas dress-up suit. No way, because in my opinion a Sinterklaas does not wear shiny plastic fabric. A Sinterklaas wears a soft velvety cape. And straight away, the cogs in my head started to turn. Because really, who can say no to such a gorgeous blond girl? So, after dinner we got to work straight away. An old curtain was turned into a luscious cape, with elastic at the top around the neck and a shiny gold cord to close it. And with some car board the mitre was done in a few minutes. I put elastics on the sides, so that she can still wear it when she's 16. Of course, she wanted to try it on straight away, even though she was still dripping wet from her bath and wearing her wee brother's Spongebob bath towel. And because Sinterklaas never comes alone, I also made a little Piet hat for wee S, so that tomorrow the...

Presents bought, back to knitting

Yoohoo, I got all my Sinterklaas presents in da house! This means no more worrying about what to buy for whom, just a few small items to knit and some poems to write, but the pressies have all been wrapped up and hidden, so time to go back to knitting! I also got the knitting needles size 6 which I needed, so tonight, after some ironing, it's back to the Lost sweater... Here a first picture of my progress! O yeah, and tonight I've also taken some pictures of the Golden Oldies I mentioned yesterday. My mom seems to have an endless stash of magazines, hidden away in dark cupboards which she is now clearing out to hide Sinterklaas and X-mas presents in... ;) It's an ancient 'Annie Blatt' and my mom knit several sweaters out of this magazine, some for the Handwerkhuis she knit for and some for us, like this one in white, for me: And here a few little 'folk' gems, of which the Nordic one is definitely added to my wish list: This last sweater was a labour of love...
