The fan-dom of visible mending continues... There's always stuff to mend here, often more than once. Whether it's trousers with knees scraped for the fifth time, socks that need a hole filled, again, or my mittens, which have been getting so much use during my daily bike rides to work that the thumbs had gone, again. A number of my Facebook-friends, and a few other people I follow via the sideline, have been posting their pics of visible and also invisible mending and various 'Make and Mend'-projects that have been organized. Great fun to see what other people are up to, and also very inspiring! Ik ben nog steeds een grote fan van 'zichtbaar repareren'. Er is hier altijd genoeg te maken en repareren, meestal meerdere keren... Of het nu een broek is waar voor de vijfde keer een knie uit is, sokken waar weer gaten in zitten of mijn wanten, die intensief worden gebruikt tijdens mijn dagelijkse fietstocht naar het werk, en waar wéér een duim van open is. Een aanta...

Last weekend, I came across a bag. A bag with socks in it. They were socks I had completely forgotten about, so I was very happy to have found them again. And when I took them out, I realized why they were there. Darn... Yes... holes and more holes... As is quite normal with socks, if they fit well and they look nice, you wear them a lot. And when you wear them, they wear as well. Resulting in holes. Unlike some people who get holes on the heels of the feet, which for me always stay nice, I get them under the ball of my feet and under my toes. Like this... See how this one has already had the darn treatment before? The part on the left (with the purple thread) has been darned, while the part on the right, under the 'new' hole, has been re-knit. I took up the stitches, and just knit an extra patch, picking up a stitch every row on the sides. The last row is then grafted in. Easy peasy. Here's the sock with the toe hole fixed and a small worn patch regrafted. It's bas...

The company that brings you free holes in your socks... You can image my shock and horror and dismay when I found not only a hole this size in one of my Salida's , but an impending hole in the other sock as well... So, straight away, I dipped into my basket of remnants for my sock blanket, and halleluja!, found the green yarn I used for these socks. Instead of just darning the hole, I decided more desperate measures were necessary and I reknit over the hole. I took up the stitches several rows below the hole and just knitted up, taking up the side stitches as I went along. Afterwards, I fastened the two layers together with some invisible inside stitching, and now I'm the proud owner of hole-less Salida's once more.
