Our Ninja Boy (or Hef in training, or Iron Man in pj's) and a girl in a coat

Image
The sewing machine has been whirring like mad in the Moss house over the last few weeks. Little Mister Man decided that he wanted a Ninja outfit, and when we arrived in the store, he immediately ran to the most flashy red and gold fabric they had. The girls at sewing class had a laugh last Monday when I showed the fabric to them, but I persisted, cut the pattern and then yesterday evening put the serger and sewing machines to work and three hours of work, two broken needles and a few 'comments' at silly stitch dropping later: voila, our own little Ninja - Hugh Hefner - Iron Man in pj's. He was deliriously happy with it when he saw it this morning! Unfortunately, he was NOT allowed to wear it to school (he will on Friday, I'll better warn the teacher in advance... ), but he has been running around in it all afternoon. Strike a pose, Mister Ninjaaaaaa! Little Mermaid has also finally got her coat: Happiness all-round :) Also a quick peak inside, as the lining is almost a...

Mermaid's new coat...

Image
Remember when I cut up my old winter coat and wanted to turn it into a new winter coat for Mermaid? And it wouldn't work? A solution has been found! With some help from my wallet, a helpful blogless Judith from SnB and lots of stalls at the Stoffenspektakel, I finally collected all the necessary fabric and notions to sew up one kick-ass winter coat for Mermaid. I had been given specific instructions about this coat. It was supposed to be red and have a fake-fur collar. So I came home with grey/pink fabrics and shiny dark pink buttons. Of course. Mermaid was elated however, and said that I had actually bought fabric which was way cooler than she could have imagined. Now the only thing left for me is to make it. I still have the minor thing of my own dress to sort out and then I hope I can get started next week. Should be fun!

Hup Holland Hup!

Image
The atmosphere is electric, wee H is extremely proud of her poster of the Dutch national team, staff in the supermarket is donning orange hair, kids are wearing orange shirts... Hmmm, me guess there might be an important match on tonight! ;) In stead of knitting socks all the way through the tournament (I keep missing the most important bits because of difficult increases/decreases/cables/heels etc.), I decided to get started on my coat. During tonight's game I should definitely manage to get the pattern cut out of newspaper. As long as I don't start on the beer too early... HUP HOLLAND!!!!!!! **** Disclaimer: as a true Frisian national, I dislike the word 'Holland' being used for the Netherlands, but to avoid clashes with inebriated foreign fans (how come we're almost always on holiday during an WC or EC, except this year...? ) I refrain from commenting about this little bit of trivia during international football tournaments. I'm happy to divulge at any other ...
