En met mijn lange snuit....

Blaas ik dit jaar uit! Op een creatief 2010! I would like to wish everyone a very creative 2010!

Ahoy!

It's amazing how quick you can knit with some time on your hands... It was great to have a little, simple project for the Xmas period, which I could knit on while watching telly after a nice meal. So, without much trouble, I finished Sam's stripey sweater I started a few weeks ago, and which, instead of being a Spring sweater, has already been christened by a very happy little sailor boy! (I apologize for the fuzzy and small pictures.. phone-camera and a quick moving child don't go well together...)

Merry Christmas

A light in the darkness and a new beginning...  Merry Christmas everyone!

Darn it!

Image
Today's blog is sponsored by Darn It! The company that brings you free holes in your socks... You can image my shock and horror and dismay when I found not only a hole this size in one of my Salida's , but an impending hole in the other sock as well... So, straight away, I dipped into my basket of remnants for my sock blanket, and halleluja!, found the green yarn I used for these socks. Instead of just darning the hole, I decided more desperate measures were necessary and I reknit over the hole. I took up the stitches several rows below the hole and just knitted up, taking up the side stitches as I went along. Afterwards, I fastened the two layers together with some invisible inside stitching, and now I'm the proud owner of hole-less Salida's once more.

Snow!

Image
Yes, lots of snow on many of the other Dutch blog sites! It's soooo beautiful outside! And even though it's extremely hectic and trains, buses, cars and bikes have the biggest problems getting anywhere, we're enjoying the silence of whiteness. On days like this, I'm glad we both work from home and the kids are in school only 2 mins walk away. Next to our local supermarket. No, here snow is not the end of the world. Even though both kids lost the mittens I knit them. Time for more hot chocolate...

The gift of giving / Geven is net zo leuk als krijgen

Yes, my present was for Mijke ! Jaaaa, mijn cadeautje was voor Mijke ! She loves cooking, and is actually quite good at it too! So, I gave her a nice brownie recipe with ingredients, and made a kitchen apron out of a green kitchen towel and loads of sparklies. I hope she likes it! And what I got? En wat ik heb gekregen? Met dank aan mijn Sinterklaas.... (????)

Wie zoet is krijgt lekkers (updated/bijgewerkt)

No English title this time, as it is hard to translate :) When I was in the shops today with wee H, she was a bit sad when I told here she was not going to get a Sinterklaas dress-up suit. No way, because in my opinion a Sinterklaas does not wear shiny plastic fabric. A Sinterklaas wears a soft velvety cape. And straight away, the cogs in my head started to turn. Because really, who can say no to such a gorgeous blond girl? So, after dinner we got to work straight away. An old curtain was turned into a luscious cape, with elastic at the top around the neck and a shiny gold cord to close it. And with some car board the mitre was done in a few minutes. I put elastics on the sides, so that she can still wear it when she's 16. Of course, she wanted to try it on straight away, even though she was still dripping wet from her bath and wearing her wee brother's Spongebob bath towel. And because Sinterklaas never comes alone, I also made a little Piet hat for wee S, so that tomorrow the...

Knitting tree/Breiboom

Image
It's become a bit of a tradition, that on the Wednesday before Sinterklaas we do something 'fun' at SnB Fryslân. Last year we all knit a beautiful scarf for the cow which stood in front of our café, but as the cow is no longer there (the café has new owners, and the cow disappeared, along with the scarf), we decided to try some Landscape Knitting. A first attempt was made during a day out on Schiermonnikoog a while back, but this time it was serious. The tree in front of Café Wouters was decorated beautifully, with scarfs in all colours, with flowers, text and patterns. It looks amazing! We can't wait until tomorrow, to see what it looks like in daylight. A photo impression (including waiter, who not only brought out yummy treats, but who also read the traditional Sinterklaas poem).
