She knits and sews too!

After all that spinning, I decided to get on with some other crafting this week. The first thing I did, was get a project done: Expectation , a design by Dutch Knitting Design. I used that funky yarn I bought at Balloo, and although you can't see the shimmery thread running through the yarn, it really shows up when you wear it. Shows you again that a picture cannot capture all of reality... The shape is amazing. It wraps all the way around, and especially as this is a shawl for Mermaid, it can even be worn in a way where you tie it around the waist. This shows you how large it is for me.Quite small, but a nice shoulderette for those chilly nights or visits to a church during the Summer holidays. I am notorious for always wearing shoulderless tops and to not offend people, I will gladly wear this type of bling. It was nice to knit with something so colourful after spinning the natural fibers, and it inspired me and Mermaid to other things... After this shawl was done, we ra...

Plarn!

Image
I got the idea from her  and immediately knew what I was going to do with it... A bag for Hannahs teacher, as today is her last day at school before the summer holidays! It was a bit last minute, so I spent both football games - which both yielded exactly the right results (and way longer until late into the night) cutting up bags and crocheting away with my plarn. It is bit unwieldy, but such fun to do! It was quite an undertaking to get the colours I wanted, but thanks to the AH, Makro, Blokker and Aldi bags stashed in our attic and one visit to the shops, I had enough bags in enough colours to turn them into a nice new bag. (front) (and back) It is big enough to put the jar with home-made strawberry-rhubarb jam in and Hannah's teacher will be 'making the blitz' on Sunday, when Holland are playing the World Cup final against Spain! And today as well: HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE! Nothing nicer than waking up to a gorgeous cake. Well, he could have done without me shoving...

Ode to the Queen Bea / Ode aan de Bea-tas

Image
After a day of crocheting and some sewing, I present to you my Queen Bea bag! Na een dag haken en wat naaien presenteer ik hierbij mijn Koningin Bea-tas! In true crazy yarn style, copied from a fellow SnB'er (DutchAstrid on Ravelry), I rolled up three balls with mainly greens, blues and whites, with some red and orange thrown in here and there. These I crocheted up on Queen's Day into a big shoulder bag. For a lining I used some Ikea fabric I still had over from the bunting I made for wee H's birthday. I added a little pocket for my mobile phone (so no more complaining from big S about never being able to find it in my bag when it rings and he needs to pick it up for me) and a loop for my keys. Wee H loved it so much, that she wants one too. Obviously not as big as mine, but I have already started one for her, in Fabel sock yarn. I was going to use it as my swimming pool project, but it turns out that I have to hurry if I want to get it finished before she gets her B d...

Disbelief / Ongeloof

What started out as a gorgeous day, has turned into a national tragedy. Latest news is that in Apeldoorn 4 people got killed and several were seriously injured when a man drove his car through the crowds watching the Royal bus go past. I heard it around half 1, when I got a call from big S, who had gone home to put wee S to bed. I did stay in town, selling our books and crocheting my bag, but the joy had certainly gone out of the day. Pictures of my Bea bag so far can wait...

Smooshy blue

Image
A whole lot of smooshy goodness - who doesn't love Malabrigo??? This is Azul Profundo. I used just over 2 skeins. The edging Just in time to wrap myself in it watching the closing ceremony of the Olympics (If I will watch it, that is...): my Jeanie! Unblocked it is about 155 x 45 cm long and wide. I did change the top and bottom edging, because I found the description very illogical and just knit cables like on the sides and then incorporating one stitch from the main body every row. Much less fuss and nice edging! As soon as my poor legs (we went to town this morning on the bus and walked back, then I biked to the allotment, did loads of hard graft and biked back...) are a bit better, and I've picked up all the yarn my kids have thrown around the house, I will put Jeanie out to block it. The reason there is loads of yarn lying about, is that I'm going to knit some fun bags, both for the kids and for me (and lo and behold, Mister Man wants a tote bag, with the Marillion Mar...

A girl needs a bag... or 10!

I've got my eyes on a few bags! Even though I find the whole felting experience a bit frightening, I just HAVE to HAVE to make a Suzy Q ... and the Celtic Tote ...
