She knits and sews too!
After all that spinning, I decided to get on with some other crafting this week. The first thing I did, was get a project done: Expectation, a design by Dutch Knitting Design. I used that funky yarn I bought at Balloo, and although you can't see the shimmery thread running through the yarn, it really shows up when you wear it. Shows you again that a picture cannot capture all of reality...
The shape is amazing. It wraps all the way around, and especially as this is a shawl for Mermaid, it can even be worn in a way where you tie it around the waist.
This shows you how large it is for me.Quite small, but a nice shoulderette for those chilly nights or visits to a church during the Summer holidays. I am notorious for always wearing shoulderless tops and to not offend people, I will gladly wear this type of bling.
It was nice to knit with something so colourful after spinning the natural fibers, and it inspired me and Mermaid to other things... After this shawl was done, we ran to the fabric store, but some bits in various colours, and then attacked the fabric with scissors...
After two evenings of us both sewing and Mermaid giving specific instructions, we ended up with a huge lined skirt bag (as hubby calls it), with the same handles as my Zuma bag, a shoulder strap, a zipper and pockets. Yes, the works...
The black and purple fabric were scraps we had in our craft room, the other ones were carefully selected in the store by Mermaid.
What I'm most proud of? Ths zipper. It's absofrigginlutely pefect. And it makes sure the bags is almost totally sealed off and no-one can just put a hand in to pickpocket my little angel. There are spaces around the edges for the shoulder strap, whenever she decides it is too heavy and she wants to carry it crosswise.
We were a pair of happy bunnies last night at 11, when it was finally finished... ;)
And now, back to knitting: I finally got working on my Haapsalu shawl. I decided to go for Butterfly pattern 1 (Liblikakiri 1), and am knitting a long shawl first with 8 repeats. With all the nupps, this will be a looooong project...
I also have a 'small' cushion cover to knit, but the heart wants nupps, so that is what it gets...
