Wild things...

Image
Yes, there is knitting being done. But also a lot of work, which means there's not that much time for extensive blogging at the moment. Soon! But, this I just HAD to blog about... This afternoon, I got the pictures of a cape we 'yarnbombed' last week. It was great fun helping out Janny , and we hope become a very successful designer! The cape was her idea, the knits and crocheted decorations are made by some of Janny's friends and a few fellow SnB-girls... Enjoy the pics!

5 years Stitch 'n Bitch Fryslan

Image
Yesterday, we celebrated the 5th anniversary of our local Stitch 'n Bitch group. The preparations started a few months ago with an inventory of ideas, and the organizing committee got to work with all that input, planning the big surprise for all of us. We were first invited to knit, crochet or otherwise craft cool head gear. No party without hats! This is our Frisian geisha Marijke, who unfortunately did not win the prize for best head dress. That went to blogless Gretha with a beautiful summery hat with butterflies on it. I have no good pictures, hopefully I can put up a link to better ones soon! We started the party with some Prosecco, of course in suitable glasses... There were pictures to look at (and take home) of our yarnbombing event earlier this year... And then after depositing our swap yarn for later on that evening in the big box, and writing down our estimates for the 'Guess the weight' competition, we got stuck into the food. Café Wouters had put up a gre...

Tour de Fleece - day 5

Image
Day 5 was Stitch 'n Bitch day! Off we went, Loes and I, in the car. I had forgotten that the boot was all full with groceries for tonight's Thank You for Volunteering-Night at school, so Loes had to sit in a child seat. I was a bad mommy, as I didn't strap her in... We had a great night, starting outside on the terrace and moving inside when it got a bit too chilly. Loes had a great night, she squeeled with delight and sneezed a few times when the rough 'straight from the sheep' fiber got into her nose. She also loved the cookies that came with the cappuccino! We had a few newcomers last night, most famously our favourite Ysolda, represented by her book 'Little Red in the City', hot off the press, which was passed around by greedy hands... Still debating whether to buy the paper or e-book version, but it looks like a nice book to have anyway!

SnB with spinning wheel? / SnB met spinnewiel?

I really feel like taking my spinning wheel to SnB tomorrow night... Who else? It would be cool if there were several of us spinning outside of the café! Votes can be cast until tomorrow night 6PM... :D Ik heb erg veel zin om morgenavond te gaan spinnen op de SnB... Wie nog meer? Zou wel leuk zijn als we met meerdere dames op het terras zitten te spinnen! Stemmen kan tot morgenavond 6 uur... :D

O is for Ober

Image
Last night at SnB, we presented our knitted present for our favorite Cow (nameless and blogless), who always stands outside the café where we knit. She was a bit 'bare' and we decided she needed a scarf for winter. All of us knit a bit and it turned out to be a brilliant scarf in the end! The waiter was pleasantly surprised, sniffled his way through the poem that went with it and then also received four chocolate letters (O for Ober = Waiter in Dutch) for himself and his colleagues. I bet his usual customers don't do this... lol We had great fun knitting, composing the poem and of course sharing this super secret. Girls, I really enjoyed myself yesterday! See you next time! The waiter, flabbergasted... The cow proudly wearing her rainbow scarf

On the air

I thought we had to wait until Sunday, but we're on the Internet already! Omrop Fryslan: Buro de Vries Select the item 'Sokken breidzje' and listen away. Isn't our Frisian language beautiful? You can here me around 2:05 and 3:51.

My left eye

Image
Ouch, that hurts. Since two days, I've had a wee eye infection. Nothing to worry about, but it does mean wearing lenses is a bit of a no-go and because my glasses are gazillions of years old and are not the right strength, everything around me looks a bit blurry. And yes, my dad is the milkman. Haha, that's what they say here if your eyes have a bit of a different colour in it. Both my parents have/had blue/green eyes, so who knows where that bit of brown came from... Despite this, I did manage to get stuck into my Jacobeans for the SKP 2008 and finished them last night. Hooray! I also finished my sideways socks. Hooray! They did end up being a tad too big, but I got a great tip from Simone to just wash them in the machine and felt them a bit. It is BFL, so I guess it will work (I can hear Yvon gasp on the other side of the country. Breathe, girl... I won't do it again, I'll measure PROPERLY next time, promise!). Pattern: Jacobean, Sock Knitting Pentathlon 2008, sock n...

Flapper time!

Image
Yep, time for the flap on mitten number 2! Tonight they will definitely be finished, so expect some piccies tomorrow. Bit of a busy week this week. I'm on the Games and Play committe in our local area and we had a council meeting and a conference for all the inhabitants of our area. Pffew... But I also got to knit. Me and her decided an extra SnB night was in order, but as no-one else was available, I got myself, my yarn and something yummy to her place and we had a great evening chatting, knitting, fondling some of her new stash for Wolhemel (me wants!!!) and watching telly. When I got home, I saw that I had made an incredible mistake in my mittens (as you do...) and spent an hour getting that right again... Haha... But it was a great evening! (Even though it was way later than it usually is...) And we didn't even annoy her hubby ;) I was a bit disappointed though that he wasn't knitting... (sorry J...) Regular SnB resumes in two weeks' time, as next Wednesday is Sin...

Molar challenge

Image
I can't remember wee H having so much trouble with her molars, but maybe I've repressed it. Wee S is an absolute terror. He screams, cries, throws his toys around the room and is, generally, very angry. At me. At his dad. At his sister. At the chair. At his food. At his mouth. At his bum because it hurts so much because of his teeth. At the potty. At everything. So now, he is back in bed for a morning nap with bungella on his gums and a kiss from mommy. And all is well. As I was thrown off course workwise as a result, I decided to make a few pictures of what I have been working on since Saturday, the sideways sock, designed by Yvon . Or, as she said it, a product of her warped brain ;) Here a piccie of all of us intently listening to Yvon and making our measurements and calculations. I wish I had hair like her, apparently it weighs 3 kilos. Sigh. Luckily my brain is as warped as hers, so I took on the challenge to finish them as soon as I could. I'm now halfway and it looks...

SnB Day

All too much... Still trying to sort out all my memories, think about what I want to blog about, trying to find the right photos to go with it (my photos suck, to be honest), make some piccies of my purchases... but first a serious, overdue work deadline...

Reality bites back

Image
Today started with some bad news. After a struggle with cancer, my friend Daniella's mother passed away this morning. It made me very angry, cause it is always such an unfair way to go. Luckily they all spent the last week of her life together and everyone important to Sietske was there. It made me just want to break stuff and throw things away. Actually quite a good thing as we had to clean up our and the kids' rooms today. We only really got our own room and baby S's room done, but I did manage to sneakily fill our wheely bin with loads of toys wee H never plays with, baby S will never play with and which are not fit for recycling. We also rearranged their wardrobes, exchanging summer for winter clothes and in baby S's case, dividing up all the usuable clothes over 4 boxes for various friends and their kiddies. Turns out that including what I got this week, he has enough clothes to get him through the winter. On the knitting front, I finished my first Acorn. They'...

Out of orbit

We're back from the black hole left by the stole. I'm now working hard on the 'Kort door de bocht'-socks for the Dutch sock knitting-KAL and halfway sock nr. 1. On Friday I'm going to exchange the remaining yarn of the stole for a skein of Vivaldi Cerise to start on the fingerless gloves we (the Frisian SnB group) are knitting for the National Stitch 'n' Bitch day. Whatever is left will be transformed into a Mimosa scarf and then I've also got Oriel planned, a high neck 'blouse'... Enough to keep me busy! Saartje, so nice to finally meet you in the flesh! And Lotte is soooooooo cute. It makes me want to have another wee girl! Hard to imagine mine was that small 4 years ago... And in a month's time baby S will be celebrating his 1st birthday. Time flies (sigh... but I'm going to stay 25 forever, whatever the official documents say :-)))
