Digging in

Today, I got some work done at the allotment. It felt great! The first bit went okay, as we had that cultivated last year. I dug up until the rhubarb plant, created a compost heap and then I hit the bit which was allowed to run wild last year. Wow, heavy going that! There were a lot of roots stuck in the soil and the soil was a lot stickier than the first bit. After 2 hours of hard grafting, I had enough and called it a day. At least I got the 'potato patch' dug over, so that's good. Hopefully, it will stay dry a bit this week, and we can both (yes, the DH and me!) work on the allotment on Tuesday or Thursday.
I also got to meet our new neighbours, Johannes and Lucia (from Mexico), who took over the corner patch a few weeks ago. Great, three patches in a row belonging to 'young' people. The revolution is well under way! ;)

On the knitting front: I finished the second Cache Coeur (blue) and will finish both off with buttons tomorrow.
And yes, I will try and finish wee S's red sweater soon, otherwise I can start all over again for next winter...

First, work... Better get stuck in... Deadline on Tuesday...

Onze moestuin is een puinhoop! maar we hoeven het niet op te ruimen, we hebben een nieuwe. Van tuin 1 naar tuin 8. Scheelt een heleboel onderhoud (1 was een hoektuin) en geloop.
Het zou deze week droog blijven, maar wel koud. Knap hoor, dat je al begonnen bent. Ik blijf nog even binnen.

Zalig weer op de tuin hé!
Ik ben ook altijd al vroeg in het seizoen er te vinden, want daar heb je later op in het jaar erg veel profijt van!
De houtsnippers zijn voor iedereen. Halen maar, makkelijk voor onder de bessenstruiken, fruibomen, onder rabarber en als paden.
Ik ben gek op het spul en heb al 2 dagen heen en weer gelopen.
Spierpijn! Maar dat doet het 'oude lijf' wel weer goed,dit is namelijk mijn sportschool.

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
