From pink to red and lots of new projects...

I can really notice I'm on holiday... Even though I'm (still) running around like a headless chicken, I am doing stuff I want to do, like painting, clearing the house, pottering about in the garden, shopping, and knitting!
Last week I spent most nights knitting these, a little testknit for her. She was looking for knitters to test-knit some winter mittens and as I thought they were super cute, I couldn't say no.
After a false start (yarn was too thin, so didn't get proper gauge), they just ran off my needles. And despite the bobbliness of the mittens (hey, I'm crap at blocking and once you wear them, this sorts itself out quick enough) they are beautiful! The figurines are mirrorred on the mittens, and I just love the little hearts on the back. Again: cute!

I know winter is still a long way off, but they will go in my drawer and wait patiently...

Yarn: no idea, stash, but sock weight (DK)
Needles: 2.5 mm circs
Pattern: Boy meets girl, by Michelle Kelly, available as a payable download from Ravelry from mid August

Oh, and the other stuff I've started? You just have to wait and see a bit...

Oh my goodness. Your blog totally fell off my radar...I accidentally removed my list and have been slowly building it back up. Felt like something was missing, though, and it was YOU! Love all the posts...just got caught up. Bunny is gorgeous, I MUST make that sweater with the ruched yoke, and the mittens are divine. Have so much fun in Portrush and raise a glass in my name...would love to be there with you all!

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
