Tour de Fleece - day 20

We're nearly in Paris... The cyclists are crossing the Alps and I almost went to bits today... Well, as a figure of speech, that is! It was such a busy day: first getting the kids to school for their last day before the Summer Holidays, baking pancakes, dropping them off at school, getting our own lunch ready, then back to school for the class performances...
But I never got to that last one. Work put a bit of a spanner in the wheels, in the form of a software glitch, which meant I spent 2 hours cleaning a document up that I had to hand in that afternoon. So no performances for me, but luckily hubby was able to go and take some pictures. While the kids celebrated their first free afternoon, I got on with the rest of the translation jobs in my queue, some cleaning, some cooking, lots of laundry etcetera... to finally sit down to some relaxing and spinning around Question Time...
I first n-plied the yarn I spun yesterday, and then got to work on the French (yes, French, not Fresh...) sheep I bought in Hoorn. This will be spun up nice and thick and then turned into a 2-ply yarn for nice cushions. I got a lovely book with amazing cable patterns, so the ideas are flowing again...


Oh yeah, and if I didn't have enough stash yet, my roving from De Spinners arrived. With some teal dye, which I have some exciting plans for...

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
