Tour de Fleece - day 11

More of the same yesterday, I'm afraid... Some rough sheep, dyed purple, spun and plied just before nodding off... It was a long day... Babylonia Vertalingen is busy busy busy, and add to that a kindergartner who has decided that the holidays should have started this week (we still have 6 days of school to go) and is behaving accordingly (out comes the Good Behaviour Chart again... sigh), a house that seems to get itself very dirty but refuses to clean itself and several people that need fed, watered and cleaned occasionally. Busy ;)
Today the heavens opened, which means the office has moved back indoor for now. It feels very autumnal, and I'm very tempted to make Nutella Cake in a Mug again (resistance is futile...).
My spinning from last night!
This is around 80 meters of thick n-ply rough yarn, which needs a nice soak in Woollite and will then join the other sheep yarn to knit stuffed toys. Batman has decided he wants a dinosaur, well, assuming he prefers one that is NOT purple, that means I should spin up the still white sheep and give that a colour bath later this week (or next week...).
Back to work!

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. When you miss a spoke, it gets broke

Okay, I'm mixing my metaphores and it's not proper English, but it rhymes! And it's the truth... 'Cause when I got a phone call last night from big S asking me to pick him and Hannah up from further up the road, this was the reason why: I had noticed a spoke was missing, and like the front wheel, the back wheel was a bib wobbly... And on Sunday, when we were planning to out for a cycle, we turned back home at the end of the street because I thought it was very strange to drive... Unfortunately, I did not get round to bringing it to the bike shop yesterday (see previous post)... and then when I asked big S whether he was sure he wanted to go biking with wee H... well, let's say I did warn them... Luckily none of them were injured, but it did crack dramatically... And now, I'm without a bike until Friday, and then I'll be two proper stainless steel wheels richer and quite a few Euros poorer... Another life lesson learnt... Luckily, the rhubarb crumble is nearl...

This is how they've slept the last two nights. Two little angels (don't ask how they behaved during the daytime, because the sleep only comes after a lot of laughter and playing and music, ergo short nights, ergo cranky kids)! I'll have to miss this sight a few evenings next week, as I found out today that I have to go into hospital on Monday for a planned cyste removal. It's a bit eh... sudden! I've been on the waiting list for weeks, and it turned out they had the wrong phone number. The fact that it was right on the official forms and that I'm listed in the phonebook apparently didn't matter. Anyway, just enough time to ensure that the kiddies and daddy are taken care of and that other appointments are moved (which was not easy, as it's a day off today for a lot of people, and I also had a work appoint halfway across the country today - thank God for e-mail and Internet!).
