Shetland Not quite Sunday yet

I know, it's Thursday, but it has been a while since my latest Shetland update, and our fly-out date is getting nearer... so, a quick look at where the sweater now stands!

Getting close!!! Last night, I finally attached the two sleeves, which knit up pretty quickly, and now I'm on the home straight.

The sleeve just reaches past the elbow, just the way I like it. And the length of the body is just right! I had added a bit of length, because on the pictures I found it a bit short. And as I spend a lot of time sitting down, the last thing I want to do is keep having to pull down the sweater over my bum.

And this is where some of the 'magic' is going to happen... The steek at the front, where the knitting has to be cut, folded back and then used as the basis for the neckline. 

About the neckline, I realised a few days ago that I would not have enough pecan yarn to finish it. Even though you don't see many brown stitches in the ribbing, the yarn has to be taken along the entire length, so the small ball I had was nearly finished before I knew it. Luckily, I could quickly order an extra wee bit, so this sweater will definitely be finished soon!

Hello,

I am visiting Leeuwarden for a few days. Whenever I visit a new place, I like to buy some yarn to knit - as a souvineer of the place. Can you suggest a yarn store in Leeywarden or in Amsterdam I should try.

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
