Mirror socks

On the verge of 2007/2008, I decided to knit the Spiegelsokken from the sock knitting group on Yahoo. They knit up like a dream, so fast! I finished them around 11 PM on New Year's Eve, so just in time. I did not make any alterations. Yarn used was Fortissima Socka in PINK (as if I would ever TRY another colour ;)).
On New Year's Day, I had a ticket for a game show and as we had a long drive ahead of us from Leeuwarden to Aalsmeer, I quickly jotted down the pattern for the next KAL, the Fruit Basket, and altered that to 80 stitches to fit big S. I actually got about 10 cms done that day, so he'll have to try them on soon for circumference to see if they're not too big... I didn't win anything in the show, but like all the contestants who bothered to turn up on New Year's Day, I went home with a nice Sony DVD Camcorder. Not bad, hey???
And today, at the SnB night, I won a free ticket to the Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle next month, courtesy of Angelique from Wolhemel. Thanks babes! (And thanks for the ride home...)

Snelle sokken ja, maar ik denk dat het ook aan jouw ligt. Ik heb je zien breien en dat ging behoorlijk rap.

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. When you miss a spoke, it gets broke

Okay, I'm mixing my metaphores and it's not proper English, but it rhymes! And it's the truth... 'Cause when I got a phone call last night from big S asking me to pick him and Hannah up from further up the road, this was the reason why: I had noticed a spoke was missing, and like the front wheel, the back wheel was a bib wobbly... And on Sunday, when we were planning to out for a cycle, we turned back home at the end of the street because I thought it was very strange to drive... Unfortunately, I did not get round to bringing it to the bike shop yesterday (see previous post)... and then when I asked big S whether he was sure he wanted to go biking with wee H... well, let's say I did warn them... Luckily none of them were injured, but it did crack dramatically... And now, I'm without a bike until Friday, and then I'll be two proper stainless steel wheels richer and quite a few Euros poorer... Another life lesson learnt... Luckily, the rhubarb crumble is nearl...

This is how they've slept the last two nights. Two little angels (don't ask how they behaved during the daytime, because the sleep only comes after a lot of laughter and playing and music, ergo short nights, ergo cranky kids)! I'll have to miss this sight a few evenings next week, as I found out today that I have to go into hospital on Monday for a planned cyste removal. It's a bit eh... sudden! I've been on the waiting list for weeks, and it turned out they had the wrong phone number. The fact that it was right on the official forms and that I'm listed in the phonebook apparently didn't matter. Anyway, just enough time to ensure that the kiddies and daddy are taken care of and that other appointments are moved (which was not easy, as it's a day off today for a lot of people, and I also had a work appoint halfway across the country today - thank God for e-mail and Internet!).
