Some cuddly toys for cuddly babies...

Today, two little cuddlies went to their new home. Two little cuddlies I had been knitting for the last week or so. One of them had been in my queue for a while, and the other one I saw when it came out in Knitty and instantly fell in love with. They had to be sort of very special, as my group of friends has about finished with the whole baby thing - even though you wouldn't think so, with 8 babies being born over the last year!
It was great to see this little bugger being unwrapped and marvelled at - especially when the mommy found out the little man can be taken out of her shell...
Pattern: Sheldon
Yarn: Durable breikatoen nr. 8, gifted
Needles: 2.75 mm
Alterations: instead of i-cord, I crocheted around the shell, as it was a bit quicker.

Meet Pinky Sheldon, now proudly owned by Mayte, a wee girl with two big brothers who will need all the turtle power she can get to help her mommy keep the pink spirit alive!

The other little darling was a bit bigger, well, almost twice the size of Sheldon. Meet Flo:
Pattern: Flo
Yarn: a mix of some homespun red wool and cream sock yarn
Needles: 3.5 mm
Alterations: none, but I left out the embellishments around the ears and feet

Flo went to wee Yvonne, the smallest of three princesses, whose sleeping beauty's castle will from now be guarded by a big, scary (but soft and cuddly) elephant...

Two moms ordered a Sheldon, and one other mom and our Sam requested an elephant. Grey, of course. Or black and yellow, like Batman...

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
