Spinning, spinning, spinning...

Only a little while to go before the Tour de Fleece starts! I know we first have lots of football to endure, but still, you can't look forward to fun things enough.
It was great success last year, I spun up quite a few miles of yarn, and to make sure I don't suffer nasty injuries - such as spinner's knee, which shouldn't be too much of a problem now I've got a two-peddle spinning wheel - I've started practicising hard and heavy...
First, I spun up 300 grams of this yummy goodness, merino with tencel, plied with lock yarn. It's called Damiane...

It is soooo unbelievably soft... I have around 800 m of this, and I'm looking for a project to make.

But first: a swatch, to see what my gauge is... Thank you very much, my yarn enabler, Dutch Wool Diva!

More yarn goodness... The roving by Pass-Partout (merino/silk) has also been spun up, as Pinky Jeans. With n-ply, it turned out at 430 m. Also looking for a project, probably a cuddly toy...

And some more merino/silk, this time in a lovely white, lavender and purple blend... This was gifted to me on  my birthday at the Breidag. I'm giving it a quick rinse and then will see how many meters it is... As I plied it last night, I was too tired to count. But, it is quite thin, I guestimate around 700/800 m...

This means my stash is dwindling... Time to turn some of the fleece I got at spin group last month (Fries Melkschaap and Texelaar) into small batts... This is before carding... 

And with some help from the Batman...

It's now a basket full of fluffy clouds...

And of course, we don't stop there... This week, I got a small ouessant fleece at spinning group. After washing it (it was dirty!!!), it's now hanging out to dry, ready for carding (or maybe combing, haven't decided on that yet)... And I've a fleece coming my way in a few weeks time at the Farm & Country fair...
Enough to keep our wheels turning!!!

Ik doe niet mee, spinnen is niet zo mijn ding geloof ik.....

Ik heb het gevoeld; inderdaad ERG zacht. Ik ben stiekum een beetje verliefd op de streng in je logo; dat zachte blauw met dat prachtige bruin...

A while ago, on the Dutch RAK group at Ravelry, one of our members asked for some assistance with some sock knitting. She said she'd love to have homeknit socks, but had never managed to knit a pair herself. So, Aal and I came to the rescue. Within 3 days of sending off the yarn, she had her first pair of socks back from Aal. That woman is so amazingly fast!!! My socks took a bit longer, mainly because I had to rip back a few times.  Knitting late at night, having to calculate while knitting, bad lightling... etc... But, eventually, they did get done!!! I suggested knitting her some Skew socks, as with the self-striping yarn she sent me, I thought the effect would be super cool. And it turned out great, even though I was a bit miffed to see that the colour depth was not the same throughout the ball of yarn. Luckily this only becomes really apparent in the leg part, which most people have under their trousers ;) A few pictures of the socks still here... See the difference?

Back from our holiday to Norn Iron

We're still buzzing, people. Totally loved it! It was mint! After what had felt like way too long we finally were able to hug our friends Damien, Katrina, Mark, Orla, and Alistair, have granny Mary-Ann spoil the kids rotten, and just enjoy being 'back'. Because that is how it felt. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Portrush, with enough bedrooms to accommodate us and granny Mary-Ann, a massive kitchen where I actually cooked as well, next to a train stop, which made travelling a breeze, and five minutes from the West Strand. Heaven! We went to the Giant's Causeway, explored Portrush, enjoyed the beach and many of the cafés and playgrounds around town, and travelled to Coleraine and Portstewart. The kids absolutely loved it, and we were all in tears when the plane took off and we flew home again... But, we're making plans to relocate! Shetland - day 3 - Monday October 8

Our third day in Shetland, and a very special one. Not only my wee boy Samuel celebrated his birthday - he turned 6 - but Monique as well. So while I phoned home early in the morning to sing Happy Birthday to my son, Monique had her own choir on the phone ;) After a quick breakfast, we set out for Lerwick, and on the way there we decided to go for a walk along the beach first, before venturing into town. Wearing my Shetland hat, which became a very welcome, warm and trusty companion The cemetery at the Knab We drove around Breiwick Bay and parked our car at the Knab, a natural promontory facing Bressay, where there are several relics from WWII and also a huge cemetery, with some amazing and beautiful headstones.
